Thursday March 28, 2013 Day 5 Marker Wadden Charrette
Today was a production day. The students worked in Utrecht, transferring their design ideas to presentation boards. Each team has two A0 boards (roughly 47″ x 33″) to fill with context information, a master plan, ecological and construction phasing, a description of the structural technique, and their idea for how humans will interact with the land and water space they are creating.
Besides tomorrow’s presentation, the boards will be used for the next stakeholder meeting, showing how stakeholder concerns were incorporated into the student’s designs. To this end, the boards also need enough text and notation to stand alone in expressing the design ideas of each team.
Tomorrow morning we print the boards, and then we’ll travel to the Natuurmonumenten headquarters in ‘s-Graveland, the location of beautiful country houses built by wealthy Amsterdam merchants beginning in the 17th century. A couple of these properties are now under the ownership of the Natuurmonumenten, which besides nature areas, owns and cares for nearly 1,000 cultural structures and assets in the Netherlands.
